Founded from a desire to live sustainably and inspire a new generation to nurture their environment, The Farm is very much a project of the heart for Lane.
Integrating the community into a “new way of living” (which really is an old way of living), and connecting them to food, flora, fauna and the environment, The Farm is an agritourism project comprising a working farm, plant nursery, market garden, restaurant and bakery, (run by the renowned Three Blue Ducks) set on 80 acres in Byron Bay.
With an overarching goal to “grow, feed, educate and give back”, The Parm provides an education facility where courses for adults and school excursions workshops for kids are on offer.
Cultivating a thriving community of growers, producers, eateries, and educators and regenerating the property with sustainable farming practices, Lane released “The Farm Community” book in 2018 – a collection of stories, projects and recipes, it tells the story of Lane’s family wanting to live a simpler life, and a farm built with the involvement of the local community. It is for anyone who craves connection - connection with where food comes from and connection with community.
Attracting 500,000 visitors each year, creating over 125 new jobs for the region, and giving back about $30 million per annum to the local economy, The Farm harvests over 20 ton of organic produce per year and has virtually zero food miles while supporting countless local farms.
“The aim of The Farm was to have visitors walk away with a better understanding on how to change what they do and be mindful of where their food comes from. Essentially, we wanted to start a ripple effect – one that could carry on from this thought to visitors’ local communities, after all, with a better understanding comes the drive to life a healthier lifestyle for oneself and the planet.”
EMMA L. LANE
"Take a tour around the grounds and learn of their incredible sustainable practices before savouring one of the most memorable farm-to-table meal experiences you’ll ever have. It’s hard to think of a project more emblematic of modern Byron than The Farm.”
